Products And Tools To Promote Long, Healthy Hair

Hey guys! I’m on hair journey y’all. Im entering my whimsical, elf, princess era. Which includes long flow dresses and long shiny hair. I’ve grown my hair long in the past and loved it, but, it’s a lot of work. In the past 15 years I’ve grown my hair really long then when I'm over it, chop it all off. After almost 3 years of short hair I am ready to bring back my long locks. I am fortunate that I have no grays yet, so I need to take advantage of this opportunity while I can, lol. I am no spring chicken. I’m turning 35 this year and who knows, this might be my last chance to grow long hair again. Some people just can’t grow their hair long after a certain point. There are certain products and tools I like to use to help maintain healthy scalp and hair so that it can grow out nicely.

—Scalp Serum—

Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. We put so much attention into our hair and simply forget about the importance of scalp care. Love this serum by Pacifica. It comes in a nice glass bottle too, which always helps. I put about 6 full droppers of this all throughout my scalp before hair wash day. Sometimes I will let it sit for hours, if I can. If I am doing a slick back pony, i’ll use this to style. After at least 20 minutes, I massage this with my scalp massager while in the shower. More on that later. This helps balance and stimulate the scalp. The rosemary and mint combo provide a nice subtle tingle, which feels so nice on the scalp. I find using this that my scalp is more balanced, less itchy, and after washing my scalp is SO clean!

—Castor Oil—

I love castor oil for hair growth. When I had very long hair, I used this at least once a month. It is a very thick, sticky oil, so can be difficult to work with. Like the scalp serum, I massage this into my scalp before I was my hair. I like to apply this on my ends too for some extra hydration, but not all throughout the hair because it’s just too heavy. Because of the consistency of this oil, you will definitely need to double wash your hair. This bottle is great cause it has an easy application tip that you can apply right to the scalp. Tip-I like to put some in a small empty mascara bottle and use it on my brows too!

—Deep Conditioner—

I recently discovered this product and am forever a fan. This is a deep conditioner + color gloss in one. Perfect for in-between color appointments at the salon OR if you just want to add a bit of dimension and color to your natural hair, which is exactly what I use it for. I do not dye my hair and haven’t in YEARS! But I personally prefer my hair a bit darker so this is perfect. It deposits a beautiful gloss and slight color to your hair and while it’s doing that, it’s also deep conditioning. My hair is SO shiny and silky after using this.

This is temporary color and I find, I like to use this about once month or whenever I have the extra time. You want to leave this on for a minimum of 20 minutes and definitely wear gloves. The color change is nothing drastic, just nice and subtle. It really helps enhance your natural tones and highlights. And the best part, it is an incredible deep conditioning treatment. Your hair is left so soft, light, and glossy. I think they have a color-less option too, if you just want the conditioning benefits.

—Heat Protector—

If you use heat on your hair what so ever, or if you are out in the sun, you need a heat protector for your hair, especially if you want to grow your hair out! It is necessary for maintaining healthy hair. I haven’t tried many different brands, to be honest. I have used this one for years and just keep re-purchasing it cause it works, smells lovely and Kristin Ess products are superior and very underrated. Big fan of her Shampoo and Conditioner. You can find this brand at Target too.

—Scalp Massager & Brushes—

There is just something about getting in the shower after a long day and massaging your scalp. Just little ways I romanticize small moments through out my day. Not only does this help stimulate blood flow to the scalp, it feels amazing! When I have a tension headache, this is a tool I love to use to help. After the scalp serum has been sitting for a while, I massage this all over before I begin to wash.

A good hair brush is another important tool you need to maintain healthy hair. When your hair is wet, it is much more vulnerable to breakage. A wet brush will allow you to brush your hair when it is wet, without tugging and ripping your hair out. Always start at the ends when you brush and gently work your way up to the scalp. I also love a good *wooden bristle brush, which I use overnight before bed. Talk about another amazing tool for massaging the scalp. The one I have is for short hair, but they have a lot of different options.

—Hair Oil—

The hype is real with this oil. It is a bit of splurge, but this bottle lasts a very long time! I literally have had this bottle for 4 years at this point and no I do not use it every single time I style my hair but still, she’s used enough that I love it and i’m just at the half way point. You need such a small amount so IMO, it is worth it.

This is my last step in my hair care routine. After I blow dry and finish styling, I add a dime sized amount of oil on my palms and work it through out my hair, focusing on the mid-ends. This instantly tames frizz and provides the most silky glow to your hair.
