Winter Season Skin Care Routine

My skin definitely has been more dry these past couple of months. Coming from South Florida where humidity is consistently high, my skin went through an adjustment period during the winter months. Granted North Carolina has mild winters, it still gets cold and dry. I tweak my skin-care routine throughout the year depending on the seasons and how my skin is feeling. You can check out this post which was my routine in early March, 2022. As someone who really loves skin-care I will definitely be sharing my updated skin care routine at least a couple times a year. I love trying new products and experimenting with skincare products in general. Lately, my skin has been very balanced, clear and chill.

My skin type is dry/combo/sensitive. A bit acne prone and easily congested. I can tell pretty quickly if I will like a product or not and really make an effort to do research on the products I am going to start using.

Okay let’s dive into the routine and what I am using.

MORNING

Cold water splash- why cold water? Well, cold water instantly wakes you up! It’s my favorite way to start the day. Like I am not awake until I give my face a cold bath. It is uncomfortable first thing, but it is so worth it. Tightens pores and gentle removes any oil residue from the night before.

Derma E resurfacing pads. I like to use these in the AM after my cold water refresh. I mentioned I have congested prone skin and these give my face a clean base while gently exfoliating whatever accumulated on my skin overnight. The skin, like the other organs in your body go through a renewal cleansing process when you sleep and it’s important to start with a clean base before beginning a skin-care routine. Especially if you are prone to getting congested.

Antioxidant serum- Derma E Ultra lift DMAE serum. This has amazing powerful antioxidants that are going to encourage cellular renewal and provide protection from all the elements we experience in our day to day.

Revitalizing eye cream by Cocokind. I like this one in because of the application it provides. It’s in a small tube with a metal applicator so that you can apply this cream hands free. I keep mine in the fridge so that the metal is nice and chilly when I apply it under my eyes.

Ice roller by The Skinny Confidential. I have mentioned this tool a handful of times between this blog and my Instagram. It is just the best! If you are interested in an ice roller, then just get this one. It is the best out there. Trust me. I keep mine in the fridge and bring it in the bathroom with me every morning. Once i’ve done the steps above I lock it all in with ice cold therapy! It is VERY cold and SO therapeutic. At this point my skin is soft, clean, tight and awake!

Moisturizer- I like Derma E Hyaluronic acid day cream. My god I cannot explain how good this feels on your skin after ice rolling. It’s something I look forward to doing EVERY morning. This cream is an amazing under make up too. Oh and a plus is it holds my brows in place well. It’s packed with Hyaluronic acid. Think of this as large drink of water for your face.

Sun protection- I use IS Clinical Eclipse SPF 50 in beige tint. I like that this brand is medical grade and never irritates my skin or causes me breakouts. The tinted version is nice on days I do not want to wear makeup and just want a nice soft glow. I also use my Mineral Fusion SPF brush for on the go and re-application throughout the day.

NIGHT

Cleansing balm by Dr Hauschka This product is my current make-up remover/first cleanse. I always using some type of oil on my face before I go in with a second cleanse. This one has a very calming herbal smell that I love and is like a think balm. I work it into my DRY hands and apply to my dry face before I get in the shower. Once you get in the shower, the steam heats your face and it transforms into a milky cleanser and rinses right away.

Cleanse with Naturium Niacinmide gel cleanser I have repurchased this product at least 5x, maybe more. It’s just an excellent daily facial cleanser. With a gel like consistency it has a delicious foam and really gives you a clean, happy face.

Exfoliate with Mad Hippie scrub 2x a week. I do this on days I wash my hair or shave so it can sit on my skin for a few minutes. Ever since I’ve tried this product, I am not interested in trying another physical exfoliator. It deep cleans without making your skin feel sensitive and stripped. It’s at a good price and is packed with really effective ingredients.

Antioxidant serum from AM :)

Face oil- I rotate between two at the moment. TSC Ice Queen Face oil and Derma E Glow Face oil. I personally am not a fan of applying face oil in the AM. But at night I love to lock in this whole process with an antioxidant rich, luxurious face oil. Both of these have Red Raspberry which is rich in Vitamin C.

And for the last step in my SDNR (slow down night routine) I apply a brow and lash serum. This one is very inexpensive and nourishing. Doesn’t cause any irritation at all. I love that it has two different applications. One for the lash line and one for brows, or interchangeable. Only been using this for a week, so I will let you know how I like it over the next couple months. I have had hair growth from using castor oil in the past so I was happy to find a convenient inexpensive one like this.

TREATMENTS

Hydrating face mask once a week | I love IS Clinical Hydra intense cooling masque and Karuna Drench sheet mask.

Steamer once a week | mine is from Vanity Planet. This is my favorite at home spa experience. Of course for the skin but also when I have a cold, this is a god send. Clears you up immediately!

TSC Razor about once a month I shave my face. I started doing this years ago back when I was in in my early 20s. I tried many so many different razors over the years and like the ice roller, this one is on another level. It is very sharp, sturdy and the aesthetic is on point. Best part, you can buy replacement blades. I change out my blade every 6 uses and make sure to sanitize with alcohol in between. The technical term of this process is called Dermaplaning. This exfoliates the skin, removes peach fuzz, and just gives such a smooth baby like base. Your skin care products will soak in better and your make up will lie so nice on the skin.

Let me know if you have any questions about any pot these products. Have you tried ice rolling and dermaplaning?
