Tools And Tips For Nail Care At Home

Hey guys, welcome back to another blog. So usually I spend Friday mornings finalizing the blog post that I plan on sharing with you guys. Earlier in the week, I’ll work on the blog a little here and there, in-between everything else that is going on in my day to day. That way, on Friday I can just button up the final touches before I post. Today is not like that, LOL. I looked down at my nails and realized, they need some TLC. So I thought, why not share with you some at home mani tips that I have. We need another “beauty” related post here anyways, right?

That’s the thing about a lifestyle blog, I cannot niche down to one or two topics. I am passionate about so many things, hence the reason I started a lifestyle blog.

Let me preface by saying, I am not a nail artist/tech and honestly am not very good at doing my own nails, BUT, I do have an assortment of tools/products that I love using to care for my nails. I am a sucker for a good manicure. It really is something small that changes your mood a bit. You have a different energy after you get your nails done, right? With that being said, it’s expensive! And unless you have a specific nail tech that you go to regularly, you are really tossing a coin with how your service will turn out. I have had many beautiful manicures, but also, many not so good as well.

I don’t know about you, but I go through phases of getting my nails done. Right now, I am in the bare naked ladies phase. Just keeping them clean, healthy and most importantly, low maintenance. I don’t have the urge to go and get my nails done, as of late. I was pretty consistent with monthly manicures for the past 4 months or so and now i’m looking forward to a break.

There is also something to be said about taking the time to care for your own nails. It’s kinda therapeutic. Like spa time. That’s how I look at it anyways. Plus you know exactly how the tools you are using have been cleaned and sanitized.

Olive and June offer kits too which are a great way to try a few things.

I usually give myself a manicure and pedicure once every month or so. Yes, this process is a bit time consuming but, I don’t find it wasteful in the least. I view it as time with myself, and indulging in some self-care, which I am always up for. The same way I feel about my hair routine, skin & body care, I dedicate to my nails. I love taking personal moments to myself that optimize my confidence, mental health and well-being.

I love Tweezerman and Olive and June for all nail care products. Olive and June has some of the best polishes and press-on nails IMO. Check out their site if you are looking for all things nail related. Their top coat is THE BEST! Hands down. So glossy and shiny! Its called the Super Glossy Top Coat and it lives up to it’s name. I love to use this over bare nails to add a little something when I don’t want polish. This also helps me when I don’t want to pick at my nails either. A huge reason I get my nails done or do them myself is to prevent me picking at them. I’m Charlene, and I pick at my nails. Such a gross habit.

The press-ons are such a great option if you don’t have time to paint your nails or if you want to ensure you get a perfect tailored look. I find that they usually last about 7 days for me. They say up to 2 weeks but I think it depends how much you use your hands in your day to day. I think these are great for special events, dates, and holidays. But I know they are short term. They are very easy to apply and remove.

A new brand I recently discovered is Chill House. First of all, obsessed with their entire brand, like, its SO me! As soon as I visited their site, I was like “oh yeah, Im going to love their stuff.” They have an assortment of products, but they also have press-ons too. I have heard really great things about their press-on nails so I will keep you posted when I use them.

I honestly and not the best at polishing my own nails. But, I have gotten better over time of doing my own. Like I said, I am not taking the time to do my nails to have the best paint job. If I want that, I will go to nail tech, LOL. I appreciate the art of taking care of my nails. Especially after I decide to take a break from getting them done. Right now they are a bit frail and need some extra attention. After years of getting my nails done, I am pretty confident on the steps of a basic manicure. Youtube is a great resource too for nail care tutorials.

Do you do your nails or have them professionally done? Next time you take a break or if you are looking for some nail inspiration and want to start adding “Nail Care” to your self-care to do list, save this post to reference later.
