Spooky Series To Binge In October Or Whenever

Hi guys, ugh i’m fighting a little cold as I finish this post up and plan on chilling on the couch and resting the remainder of the day. But anyways, we are less than 2 weeks out from Halloween and that means you’ve got the rest of this week and all of next to get cozy and scared. Last year I did a post on my favorite horror movies, so this year I decided to share my favorite tv series. To be honest, I much prefer a good series to a movie. You can really get invested in the characters and story line. I went with a mix of classic horror, psychological thrillers and dark comedies. I have seen a lot of shows over the years and really had to hone in on this selection. What I mean is, I love Stranger Things and The Walking Dead but I feel like everyone has seen it, so I didn’t include them. I wanted to share series that maybe some of you have not heard of and are little more niche in this category. I tried to pick a few from each streaming platform cause I know there are a lot out there and this way you have some options if you don’t want to subscribe to something new.

HULU

  • Hannibal- probably in my top 5 shows of all time. A master piece. Im just sad its only 3 seasons. This show deserved way more hype. The dialogue in this is top tier, high brow and perfection.

  • Penny Dreadful- Another one of my favorites, that unfortunately ended way too soon. I feel like the last season was rushed but it still has an ending and is an incredible gothic romance.

  • Ash vs Evildead- very gory, very funny, over the top and outrageous. If you have seen the original Evil Dead movies this is for you.

  • American Horror Story- there. are so many seasons of this series. Each season is an independent story so you can choose any of them and don’t have to follow any particular order. My top are Murder House, Roanoke, Coven and Asylum.

NETFLIX

  • Haunting on Hill House- this legitimately scared the f*ck out of me. Also I cried at the end. A big twist in this series. Hauntingly beautiful till the very end. When a show can invoke both of those emotions, you know it is good.

  • Midnight Mass- Same director from Haunting on Hill House, again scared me and made me emotional. The dialect in this one is deep and beautiful.

  • Cabinet of Curiosities- an incredible anthology of sinister stories by different horror creators. Perfect series if you don’t want to commit to anything and just are in the mood for a scary story.

  • All Of Us Are Dead- If you like zombie apocalypse type series, this one is amazing. It takes the whole zombie thing and goes to another level. Absolutely over the top, in the best way.

APPLE TV

  • The Servant- Worth signing up for Apple TV just to binge this series. Which is what we did. The acting and writing are superior. You will be on the edge of your seat. A husband and wife hire a young women to help them care for their new born baby, but there is no baby…or is there?

AMAZON PRIME

*with add on subscribtions (Shudder, MGM+, Paramount Plus, Starz)

  • Evil- a psychologist and Catholic priest in training. Their job is to assess whether there's a logical explanation or if something supernatural is at work, examining the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion.

  • Shining Vale- a dysfunctional family moves from the city to the suburbs. Cox is a writer who starts to believe she is either depressed or possessed. Jump scares and out right laugh out loud comedy.

  • Channel Zero- another anthology series that adapts a new “creepy pasta” each season. Aka horror stories/content posted on the internet.

  • From- a small town of people who are stuck in a specific time and place. Also dealing with horrors that hunt for them in the night. This story is amazing. One of my new favorite horror series. I cannot wait for the next season of this.

  • Yellowjackets- a group of teenage girls in the mid 90s are isolated in the middle of the forest after their plane crashes. Starving, cold and alone, crazy sh*t starts happening. All star cast and truly epic scenes in this scene.

If you watch any of these let me know! I’d love to hear what you think. I hope everyone has a few cozy/scary night(s) in. Light some of your favorite fall scented candles, make some hot cocoa and keep your pets close by, they protect us! lol

Till next time.

XO,

Charlene Huntley
