DIY Facial Massage Using Facial Oils

Hi friends! I know I’ve been a bit absentee on this blog the past couple of months. I’ve been busy with work, hello holiday season and two sick pets. Between Zeke, our 17 year old Jack Russel Terrier and Eva, our 12 year old cat, they are taking 6 medications 2-3x a day! Yea, it’s a bit overwhelming. But we love them so much so you do what you gotta do ya know?

I have been wanting to share some of my facial oils that I’ve been using. Some of these I’ve repurchased multiple times and others are newer additions. I especially love oils in the colder months. I think this blog has been in my draft folder for a solid month. No judgment please. To help assist in stressful times I like to be at home, in cozy clothes, watching comfort tv, going for a walk, cleaning/organizing and of course, skin-care!

I loveeeee a good facial massage. A professional facial is going to be a more relaxing process then doing it yourself, just like when you get your hair washed at the salon (the best). But, doing it yourself is nice too and a simple way to release some tension you might be holding.

What are the benefits of facial massage? Circulation, lymphatic drainage, tightening and toning. Think about it, you use your face muscles all day, everyday. Facial massage is an easy, therapeutic way to work out and manipulate the facial muscles. I think this helps tone and tighten your face so much. I also find it very relaxing. First thing I do when I get home after work is get in the shower and start my unwinding routine. I apply a cleansing oil all over my skin with dry hands and dry skin. I like to really work the oil all over my face and spend a minute just using my hands and massaging my face. I like to continue this massage out of the shower using a facial tool to give a deeper massage. I hold a lot of stress in my jaw and forehead so massaging those areas is beneficial to me. I rotate between a gua-sha, pink balls. Yes, they are called Pink Balls, and an ice roller.

In order to give yourself a good massage you will need a good oil, specifically a facial oil. If you have oily or acne prone skin you may be thinking, why would I put oil on my face? Isn't that counterintuitive? Face oils are NOT all created equal and if you super oily, your skin could really benefit from oil. Our skin over produces oil to make up for the lack of hydration it is receiving. When we have blemishes we usually go to drying our skin out. Choosing a non comedogenic oil is important if you have acne prone skin. Some oils are higher on the comedogenic scale than others. Simply meaning will the oil cause clogged pores. For example, hemp seed oil is on low end of this scale and coconut oil is on higher side. If you don’t have acne prone skin then you are probably just fine using any facial oil. I’m going to share several of my favorite oils that I love to use and have never caused me to breakout. If anything they hydrate, tone and balance my skin. Alright, let’s get into some of my favorite facial oils at the moment.

—Facial Oils—

  • The Skinny Confidential Ice Queen oil this lightweight oil contains pomegranate, blueberry and raspberry seed oils. This oil absorbs into the skin quickly and feels cooling on the skin. It’s the perfect oil to pair with the other Skinny Confidential tools to ensure things are smooth.

  • The Ordinary Retinol 0.5% in Squalane oil. This is a very gentle retinol in a squalene base. I find this oil doesn’t dry skin like other retinol products do. Nor does it cause any irritation. I always make sure to apply sun protection in the mornings since retinol can make the skin a bit more vulnerable to the sun. Although, we should all be wearing our sun protection everyday!

  • Derma E Vitamins C Glow Face oil. This is an antioxidant packed face oil. Red raspberry and turmeric calm and reduce inflammation in the skin while Vitamin C evens skin tone and brightens. I like to mix a couple drops of this with a tinted sunscreen for day time use. It leaves your skin very glow but not too oily looking.

  • Pranarom Clear Treatment Moisture oil this oil is so good for oily or blemish prone skin. It has willow bar extract and black cumin plant oils. With frankincense and blue tansy. It is a balancing treatment oil to nourish oily skin while combating breakouts.

  • Seabuck Wonders Enhydro Calm oil The oil for sensitive skin. Omega 3 from Seaberry seed oil, olive squalene, and rosehip. And lavender and apricot kernel help balance oil production and calm irritable skin.

Facial Massage Tools

  • The Skinny Confidential Pink Balls this and Ice Queen oil are bff. I like to use this at night after my shower when my face is clean. Helps boost circulation and lifts. It really sculpts the face muscles too. I have tried using this tool with moisturizer and it is not the same.

  • The Skinny Confidential Ice Roller my morning tool. I keep this in my freezer in the kitchen. When I come downstairs to make coffee, I take this out of my freezer and just starting icing my face. Nothing wakes you up better than this tool right here. And when I go upstairs to do my skin care routine my skin is bright, tight and awake. This is your go to tool to reduce inflammation.

  • Chill House Qua Sha another tool to promote circulation and assist in lymphatic drainage. I particularly love this tool for the neck area and forehead. The shape is just perfect for those areas. I like to use this in the morning and evening similar to the facial balls. This tool is great for travel too cause she’s sleek and tiny. Like it could slide right in your wallet. Just give her a bath first before placing on your face. ;)

  • Skin Gym Rose Quartz roller This is a tool I like to use while I am in bed reading or right before I go to bed. I leave this on my nightstand. I find the rose quartz very grounding and always on the cooler side. Not ice roller cold or anything. This is especially nice right under the eyes. It is very gentle and soothing.

Just a little clip of some of the tools and how to use them.

You could really go with any of these tools and will find benefits from all. I have collected more over the years and now love all of them in different ways. These are also cute gifts for the beauty/skin-care lover in your life, cause you know it’s that time of year again. Eeeee! I think a gua sha is a perfect tool for anyone to have. It’s very minimal, easy to use and can be traveled effortlessly.

I hope you get a few minutes to get a facial massage from you to you.
