Prioritize And Romanticize Self-Care Moments

Self-care is a special time dedicated to yourself. The best part is, each persons definition of self-care is different and unique to them. For me, it’s being home with my husband and pets, watching a movie, long walks, listening to a podcast, my skin care routine, and having no responsibility to others. Which, let’s be honest, doesn’t happen often. There is only so much time in the day to get all our tasks done and find time for ourselves. Which we typically put on the back burner. If you are someone who uses a planner to schedule your week, prioritize your wellbeing and factor self-care into those days. It doesn’t have to be grand, time consuming or expensive, just time for you, only you, and something that sparks joy.

Self-care is not just pampering yourself, although that is nice. It is in what you say, what you listen to, how you react and the content you consume. I try my best to start my morning with 1 positive affirmation that I say to myself. Start your day off with telling yourself something positive, put it out there and believe it! I focus on utilizing my time efficiently and in ways that will benefit my mindset. I make an effort to not check my phone for the first hour that I am awake. This has been very beneficial. I will stretch or read a few pages of a book while my coffee is brewing.

One thing I do for myself daily is listen to a podcast on my ride to work. My commute is about an hour one way so I choose to look at the bright side and that I have the time to soak in positive, educational information on a daily basis before I start my work day.

Podcasts I love currently:

The Skinny Confidential Him and Her

A him and her perspective. They have incredible guests on this show and its all over the place. You never know what topics or discussions will be brought up. They have outspoken conversations and create meaningful dialogues. Lauryn is one of my favorite bloggers and she has an amazing product line. The Skinny Confidential

The Blonde Files

A incredible wellness focused podcast that gets straight to the point. Arielle Lorre’s energy is chill, honest and unapologetic.

Life With Marianna

The co-founder of Summer Fridays skincare line and influencer. She has been in this industry for years and knows a lot about this business. She has successful entrepreneurs that share their story and wisdom too.

The Moments That Made Me

I am currently reading Roxie Nafousi’s new book *Manifest and its amazing. I also use her journal from The Head Plan. Each guest shares the moments that brought them to where they are today. It’s honest and inspiring to hear about the experiences and journeys of others.

Mimi

Mimi is a meditation coach and owner of her own meditation platform. An app called the Superhuman. Her podcast has segments on motivation, personal development and health.

I listen to these podcasts through out my week and they are also some of my favorite Instagram accounts to follow. I am very specific with who I follow and the content that I consume. I have other podcasts that I also enjoy, these are just the ones I listen to weekly, and consistently.

As my day goes by, I focus on the power of my word and my reaction through out the day. Next time you notice yourself getting upset or feel unwanted thoughts creeping in, take a moment to think about how you are the only one who controls your thoughts and how you react to them. I know this may seem “woo woo” to some people but, I choose to have this outlook and it benefits me and my well-being. I prioritize myself each day, in small blocks of the day and because I do that, I am a better person to the people around me each day.

Another self care habit I have is dry brushing each day before I take a shower. I don’t know about you but, my nightly showers are SO important to me. I cannot fully unwind or relax for the evening without a nice warm shower. It just feels like I am rinsing the day off of me. And of course, you know, I cherish my skincare routine. More of that here. Before I get in the shower, I dry brush my entire body.

I am telling you, if you have not tried dry brushing, it is an easy, inexpensive addition to add to your shower routine that is 100% worth it. You’ll feel refreshed, cleansed and tingly.

Benefits of Dry Brushing:

  • removes dead layers of skin

  • stimulates and increases blood circulation

  • revitalizes your cells

  • helps the elimination process of your organs

While I love the pampering side of self-care, I love the self-love aspect more. Your energy and inner well-being are the most important and we each have the ability to control how we feel mentally each day. I encourage everyone who reads this to do something just for you over the next couple of days. For me, writing these blogs is a form of self-care. I am pouring out my creative energy and hopefully inspiring others along the way.

I would love to know some small but, effective self-care habits you have that bring you peace.
