How To Make Spring Cleaning Simple

So, I’m little late to the whole “spring cleaning” vibe that many were in 2 months ago but its still Spring right? For me, I clean DAILY, 365/year. I am dedicated to the processes that I have put in place. I have shared in a previous blog how I use different tools like my reminders app to categorize and manage my household chores. I have a system in place, which is the key to staying consistent and creating manageable tasks.

Spring cleaning, that lovely time of year where we melt into the warmer months, past the holidays and suddenly feel the urge to deep clean our homes and lives. For some (like me) this time of year is cleansing, purifying and peaceful. For others, it is unenjoyable, stressful and not a priority. What I want to share with you all is which ever side you feel closest too, spring cleaning is probably a positive process for everyone to get involved with but, it should be simple and stress free.

Set clear, realistic goals for the season and what you plan to do. Before you start doing anything, take a full inventory of your home. Go through each room, kitchen, garage, living/outdoor space, projects to work on, things that need to be fixed, decor/furniture moves, donations, garbage, etc. Just write it ALL down. A detailed audit like this will help you prioritize properly. Now that you have this, look at the full list as a whole and SAVE it somewhere. You can refer to it every year and use it as your guide when deciding what to focus on the following year. I like to keep mine in my notes app. And it’s always being edited.

Group together quick and simple tasks you can can finish pretty effortlessly. Completing those tasks will feel great and sometimes small moves make a big difference. For example, Sean and I love to move our furniture around and change up a space. A new look is sometimes just what a space needs. Next group together 3 areas of the home you would like to hone in on. If you have time for others, that’s great. Prioritizing what is realistic is going to be the long term strategy to this whole cleaning thing. We have poured our focus this spring into 3 areas. Our master, my office and our outdoor space. Are there other areas of our home that I want to work on? Of course! But, I am pouring my energy into these 3 areas in this moment. I’ll be honest with you, I don’t think i’ll be waiting till Spring 2023 to address some of the areas I want to work on, lol, but I have my projects all grouped together and I can now manage my time in an organized way.

While you are cleaning, use this time to cleanse your home of any impurities with Sage and Palo Santo. The thing about keeping an orderly home is, it goes beyond cleanliness, or aesthetics. Your home is your sanctuary, your personal place to re-charge your batteries. Create and foster a space you can’t wait to come home to after a long day. A space that you feel comfortable in and can truly relax.

Everyone’s priorities are different and what is important to you will be different to someone else. It can be easy to get overwhelmed with this whole process and think that you need to get everything done at one time or follow what someone else is doing. Take your time and create a plan that works for you and who you live with.

See you next week,

XO,

Charlene
