4 Facial Tools To Elevate Your Skin Care Routine
Hi guys, I thought I would share with you the extra steps I take to care for my skin, that I think make a big difference over time and really elevate my skincare routine. If you don’t already know, I love skincare and, I’m always geeking out on techniques I can do right at home to better my skin’s health and appearance. Each of these steps benefit more than just my skin, which is why I love these that much more.
Dry Brushing
I have been dry brushing on and off for years, but recently over the past year I have made an effort to add this to my routine at least 3-5x a week. So what is dry brushing, you might be thinking? It is just that- brushing your skin with a specific skin brush and doing it on dry skin. No oil, lotion or water. I like to do this right before I get in the shower to do my shaving routine. I have naturally dry, itchy skin so doing this is literal HEAVEN for me! I have gotten Sean on board with this too and he loves it. There are many dry brushes out there that you can find. I have been using this *one. You will feel tingly and SO good after doing this. Trust me! Start my standing completely naked and work in small strokes upwards toward your heart. Including legs, butt, mid section, back and arms. After being in jeans all day, this is everything!!! I crave coming home to do this.

Promotes circulation, increases blood flow, exfoliates skin, flushes toxins and assists your lymphatic system. I love to do this BEFORE I shave because I feel like it really helps the exfoliation process. I also notice this helps the overall complexion and texture of my skin. I make sure to moisturize really thoroughly after too. I have had restless leg syndrome for years and this tool is something I contribute to managing that. I especially love to use this in the colder months when my skin is extra dull and dry.
Facial razor
That’s right, you’ve read that right. I shave my face, and have been for years! When I was in facial school we called this technique derma planing which is the process of using a precise, sharp blade to remove dead skin from the surface of the face, and with that, peach fuzz. It definitely is a treat to have this technique done professionally so you get the gist of how it is done but, I also want to be able to do it as often I want in the comfort of my bathroom. I have tried many cheap face razors over the years that you can get at a drug store or on *Amazon, but recently stepped up my face shaving routine and I’m in love! I am using The Skinny Confidential’s face razor and hot shave cream.
This razor IMO is just so much better because it comes with replacement blades, so you are not re-using a bacteria invested blade. This is the first facial shaving cream created specifically for women- that i’m aware of at least. It is formulated with clean, good for your skin ingredients that do not irritate my skin what’s so ever or break me out. Two HUGE factors for me. I used to shave with just dry skin and this is truly a game changer. Also its SO cute. Its larger than typical razors and has a good quality feel to it. I use the same blade for about 3 shaves and make sure to sanitize with alcohol after each use. After, I will replace the blade entirely.

First off men seem to always have smoother, clearer skin then we do. Like, what is up with that? My theory is they shave and therefor are constantly exfoliating their skin. Shaving removes unwanted facial hair. Even if you don’t think you have enough facial hair to justify waxing or shaving, you still have some, we all do. This process will leave your skin baby smooth. Applying makeup after this treatment is a whole new experience too. I like to do this treatment about once every 2 weeks or before I am doing something special. And no, I promise your hair will NOT grow back thicker. Your skincare will absorb so much better into your skin once the hair and top layer of dead skin is removed. I would not suggest doing this if you are having active acne. You don’t want the risk of spreading bacteria or irritating active breakouts. If you have very sensitive skin, try a small area first to make sure you are not having any reactions.
Facial manipulation tools
I have one ice roller and a rose quartz roller. Both are amazing and I utilize them for different purposes. I typically use my *crystal roller at night before go to bed OR after applying a facial oil. This tool helps work the product in, tightens and tones. If you had to get one though, I would definitely suggest an ice roller. I use this for several different purposes but my primary use is as a skincare tool. I especially like to use this AFTER I shave. It feels so good. I think any skin type can benefit from ice rolling their face.
If you have ever had a facial before, you know how special the steamer time is. Its probably one of my favorite parts of the whole experience. I decided to get one when they were on sale and it is such a great tool to have. I “try” to use this once a week but sometimes I go longer between use. This one in particular is pretty inexpensive and very user friendly. it is actually on a big sale right now. Like over half off!

Adding a facial steamer into your routine helps open up your pores, remove impurities, hydrate dry skin, and really maximize your skin care products. I am firm believer in starting with a really clean base when it comes to skincare. Serums, essences and masks are all fine and good, but if your skin isn’t clean to begin with, those products that you are spending lots of money on aren't being used to their full potential. Its like using all these great anti-aging products, but not wearing sunscreen. You’re defeating the whole point. Also, like a good clarifying shampoo resets your scalp and hair, a facial steamer unclogs your pores and gives your skin an opportunity to breathe and absorb all the goodness you have to apply onto it. Using this AFTER shaving your face is amazing too! Last use is for sinus pressure. if you are having sinus issues, this tool will open you right up and clear your sinus passages.
I have some other skincare tools I enjoy using too but these are the staples that I am consistent with. Like I mentioned, each of these tools do more than just one thing and benefit more than just caring for your skin. I love to invest in multi-purpose items that I can really get several benefits from. If you want to elevate your skincare game a bit, definitely try adding one or more of these to your routine. These are also cute gifts for the skincare lover in your life. My husband loves when I give him a facial. He also is often reaching for that ice roller too. I want to know what are some extra steps you take to care for skin and elevate your routine? Try all of these tools at your own risk. I am not a professional. And what works for one person, doesn’t work for another. These are my opinions and thoughts that I am sharing with you all.
