Horror Movies To Watch For Halloween
Hi guys! I love this time of year. The weather transitions into these misty cool mornings and chill, crisp evenings. Spookiness is certainly all around us, and I am here for it.
Sean and I love a good horror movie. We like to cuddle up on the couch, turn off all the lights, light a few candle, turn on the salt lamp, and really set the mood. The definition of “horror” is vast and not all are created equally, obviously. I am not into slasher films and over the top gore just for the sake of it. These are some of my favorites that I think will get you creeped out right before Halloween. So grab a beverage, a cozy blanket, light some candles and lock your doors!
This list is not in any particular order. I tried to get a mix of all different types of horror. From psychological thrillers, cult classics, dark comedies, zombie films, and supernatural horror, but nothing too over the top. There is also several horror movies I didn’t include in this list, frankly, I didn’t want to freak y’all out too much. Some were a bit much for the average viewer. ;)
—HORROR MOVIES—
Known as the Cornetto trilogy or the blood and ice cream trilogy. An anthology series of British comedic genre films. These three films do not share a storyline . All three films star Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. The writing is fantastic. A dark comedy with lots of laughter, jump scares and adventure.
What I love about this movie is there isn’t any crazy effects or anything, just an incredibly disturbing story line with outright creepy scenes. This will haunt you for a few days after. I remember seeing this in the theater and gasping with my hand over my mouth. It shocked me to the core.
This movie is literally perfect for Halloween. Three short stories sure to get you in the scary mood.
Quite possibly one of the greatest sci-fi horrors there is. Make sure you watch this classic film with the director’s cut! We have seen this many times. It is a classic and still holds up for 45 years old!
I chose the 2013 re-make of this cult classic because I thought it was really well done. Make sure to watch the original from 1981 too though.
This movie is also mentioned in my “about me” post where I list some of my favorite movies. This is in Spanish and I suggest having the original, intended language and, read the subtitles. This story is beautiful, tragic, and deep. I cried after watching this, let’s just put it that way.
This movie does not go the way you think it will. It takes a crazy ass turn. It’s one of my favorites.
A classic! Like do I need to say more. Nothing can touch Rosemary’s Baby!
This came out around the time Sean and I started dating. We went to see it in the theatre and my god, were we scared.
Funny story, I saw this in high school and “thought”my best friend was going to be staying the night… well she had to go home, and I was alone in my house for hours while my parents were out to dinner. After watching this you will understand how I felt.
Both The Ring and The Grudge are remakes from the original Japanese films. Definitely recommend catching those too, cause the originals are always the best, but these American versions are both very good and some of the scariest movies I’ve ever seen.
This movie has a 98% on rotten tomatoes, which should tell you right there, it’s amazing. A mother going through grief and depression, whilst also dealing with a sinister presence. It will absolutely creep you out.
I remember seeing this in the theater in 2006 and being SUPER disturbed and since then have seen it a few times. It always creeps me out. The claustrophobia is real in this movie. I will never be going in any uncharted caves thank you very much.
Walking Dead has nothing on Train to Busan. Get ready to be on the edge of your seat all night. Also, I cried. Am I okay? LOL. This is a “zombie” outbreak like nothing else.
I hope that wasn’t too much for you, lol. I had to really comb through this list to get it under 20. I’ve just seen A LOT of movies! There are many more horror movies I love but these are my top. I wanted to do a post for horror movies for halloween, not necessarily Halloween themed movies. Those are pretty obvious and we know them all by now right?
Sean and I are going to carve our pumpkins this weekend, which I am so excited about. I hope you have some time to enjoy the fun of this holiday, get creeped out a bit and stay cozy, my friends.
Happy Halloween everyone!
XO,
Charlene
